I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English and Science to elementary school students. I encouraged critical thinking in my classes and took my students’ interests into account when planning lessons. Upon my return to the United States, I tutored students in grades K-12 in the subject areas of Math and Reading. Later, I worked at a home for teenage mothers, where I conducted an Education Lab to assist the young women in the completion of their assignments and to help them study for tests for their high school and community college classes. In addition, I taught them study skills and encouraged them to work hard in school so that they could meet their goals.have worked with students from elementary school through college in a variety of subjects including Algebra, U.S. History, Civics, English, Spanish, and Creative Writing. I have experience with providing intervention reading support; I’ve helped students develop strong reading comprehension skills, boost vocabulary, and grow confident in reading fluency. Through practice and repeated application, my students have developed key executive functioning skills such as prioritizing tasks, managing time, organizing one’s work space, and developing awareness of one’s personal work habits in order to learn effectively.
