Experience
Living in Mexico for the last 11 and 1/2 years, I tutored English students. I also taught math in a school for poor adults trying to attain their junior high equivalency certificate. Besides Spanish I've studied 5 other languages either in college or on site in the host country. I am NOT a gifted language learner. Therefore I DO NOT expect language learning to come naturally to others. This makes me understanding and patient with those who struggle with learning a new language. Besides teaching in academic settings: I've been a missionary for the past 11+ years, giving me experience teaching in a wide range of contexts and cultures. As a christian, I will not push my beliefs anyone. But I will try, to the best of my ability, to exemplify a Christ-like attitude and work ethic.

I lived in Guadalajara, Mexico (population 7.5 million) for 10 years. I also lived in a small pueblo (population 3,500) outside of Mexico City for a year and a half. So I have a knowledge and history with Spanish that moves beyond the text book. I'm a father of three, and understand the pressure our kids are under to succeed. My style of teaching, though requiring focus and discipline, involves an awareness of where the student is at. My goal is to lead the student into taking in as much information as they can handle without becoming exacerbated. I'm a huge baseball fan, especially following the St. Louis Cardinals. I've traveled the world, having been in some pretty interesting places at key moments in recent world history.
